Each October, Head Start Awareness Month shines a spotlight on the lasting impact of Head Start programs and the opportunities they provide for children and families across the nation. Since its founding in 1965, Head Start has helped millions of children build the skills and confidence needed for success in school and beyond while also supporting the health, well-being, and stability of their families.
At the Berks County Intermediate Unit, our Head Start and Early Head Start programs support the 70,000 children in Berks County during their most important developmental years by providing high-quality early learning experiences, family engagement opportunities, and comprehensive services tailored to each child's needs.
Head Start's whole-child approach recognizes that learning extends beyond the classroom. By partnering with families and communities, these programs help create strong foundations for lifelong success. As we celebrate Head Start Awareness Month, we recognize the dedicated BCIU educators, staff, and families who work together every day to empower children and strengthen our community.
