October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM), and this year's theme, "Celebrating Value and Talent," is reflected throughout the Berks County Intermediate Unit.
On behalf of the students in the Pathway to Adult Living (PAL) program, Program Administrator Jessica Head extends sincere appreciation to the BCIU offices, programs, and staff members who have provided meaningful workplace learning experiences for PAL student employees. Through these experiences, students have had opportunities to develop workplace skills, discover their strengths, and prepare for future employment and independent living.
BCIU staff have played an important role as mentors, trainers, and partners in this process, offering guidance, encouragement, and authentic workplace experiences that help students build confidence and gain valuable career readiness skills. In some cases, staff members have even served as references as students pursue employment opportunities beyond the program.
Special recognition is extended to the Facilities, Print Shop, and Creative Services teams for providing hands-on training and mentorship. Appreciation is also expressed to the Early Intervention and Head Start programs for creating opportunities for students to gain experience supporting classroom environments and assisting with key operational responsibilities.
These partnerships demonstrate disability employment awareness in action and exemplify the BCIU’s commitment to preparing students for success beyond the classroom.
“Thank you to our BCIU colleagues for seeing the value and talent in our students and for helping them turn their abilities into possibilities.” ~ Jessica Head, BCIU Program Administrator, Special Education & Student Services
