Pupil Transportation
Serving School Districts throughout Berks County

The Berks County Intermediate Unit (BCIU) plays a crucial role in ensuring the safe transportation of students within the Berks County School Districts. By prioritizing safety and security, the BCIU’s transportation program helps ensure that students can travel to and from school and events with peace of mind for families and school district staff alike.

The BCIU provides transportation for:

  • Special Needs Students

  • Early Intervention Students

  • Head Start Students

  • Regular Education Students (under contract with their home school district)

  • Field, Sports, and Activity trips

  • Non-Public Home-to-School Transportation and Field Trips

  • ECYEH (Homeless) Students Transportation

In addition, The Berks County Intermediate Unit (BCIU) offers a valuable service for those seeking to obtain a Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL), specifically tailored to school bus drivers and those needing a CDL for related transportation roles. The CDL training program is open to individuals working with Berks County School Districts, school bus contractors, daycare centers, private schools, and others who need Class B CDL training.

With a PennDOT-certified School Bus and CDL Training team, BCIU ensures that trainees are prepared to meet the state's standards for driving school buses and other Class B CDL vehicles, providing the necessary knowledge and skills for safety, regulations, and practical driving skills.

BCIU is a PennDOT certified third-party CDL testing site. The BCIU offers a streamlined process for those who need to take the CDL exam.
