On Tuesday, July 30, 2024, teams of BCIU and Berks County school district employees attended a one-day functional exercise training using the Standard Reunification Method. The Standard Reunification Method provides school and district safety teams with proven processes for planning, practicing, and achieving a successful reunification following a crisis response where a controlled release is necessary.
The training consisted of purposeful exercises where participants practiced the reunification process, including role assignment, set up, and mock reunification of “students” with their “parents or guardians.” Participants experienced the reunification process from the perspectives of a reunification team member, a student, and a parent.
In addition to BCIU and Berks County school staff, several members of the Berks County Department of Emergency Services were in attendance to collaborate, observe, and support this important exercise.
The training was another crucial step in ensuring that all participating teams will be fully prepared to handle reunification during an emergency. By practicing simulated scenarios, we enhance our ability to protect our students and staff and build stronger, more resilient communities across Berks County. The collaboration between school districts and emergency services exemplifies our collective dedication to student and staff safety. Moving forward, we will continue to prioritize this important aspect of school safety, responding confidently,
