Close to 400 school administrators from Berks County’s 18 school districts and two career and technology centers convened at Muhlenberg High School on Thursday, August 1, 2024, to attend the 2024 Berks County Schools and BCIU Administrators’ Conference. This annual event, coordinated by the Berks County Intermediate Unit Office of Professional Learning and the Office of the Executive Director, provides an opportunity for networking, professional development, and preparation for the upcoming school year.
The conference featured keynote speaker Dr. Joe Sanfelippo, best-selling author and former superintendent of the Fall Creek School District in Wisconsin. Notably, Dr. Sanfelippo was named the National Superintendent of the Year in 2019 by Education Dive.
During his presentation, Dr. Sanfelippo emphasized the importance of recognizing and cultivating leadership traits in oneself and others, regardless of their role. By focusing on the individuals within a school district, leadership potential can be identified and nurtured, creating growth opportunities and fostering an environment where everyone has a chance to lead. Furthermore, Dr. Sanfelippo demonstrated the importance of storytelling to recognize, acknowledge, and amplify the strengths within our school communities.
The BCIU extends their gratitude to all who attended and contributed to the event’s success, and Dr. Joseph Macharola, Superintendent, and the Muhlenberg School District for hosting the event.
