The Berks County Intermediate Unit (BCIU) has been awarded $135,000 in funding from the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) under the Pennsylvania Gifted Equity Initiative (PGEI). Under this grant program, a total of $3.5 million was allocated to help expand gifted education programming across the state. Over the next five years, the BCIU will serve as a regional training hub to support equitable identification practices and ensure more students, especially those from underrepresented backgrounds, have access to gifted services.
This initiative aims to address disparities in gifted education and provide school districts with the tools, training, and resources to better identify and support gifted students from diverse backgrounds. The grant will also foster collaboration between schools, higher education, and families, ensuring all students have the opportunity to reach their full potential.
A special thank you to the Office of Professional Learning (OPL) staff for their efforts in securing this opportunity and contributing to the BCIU’s selection as one of the intermediate units designated for this grant.
