Exeter Township School District officials at threat assessment training.

On Friday, March 7, 2025, educators, school administrators, and school safety officials from across Berks County gathered at the Berks County Intermediate Unit (BCIU) Main Office for a specialized training session on threat assessment and its practical application in schools.

The event featured two key presentations. The first, “School Threat Assessment: Beyond Compliance,” was led by representatives from the Exeter Township School District. This session emphasized a structured approach to evaluating threats, focusing on identifying root causes and implementing effective interventions. By utilizing two research-based threat assessment models, the approach encourages parent engagement, interagency collaboration, and clear communication to ensure comprehensive student support while assessing potential threats.

Dr. Sara George, Assistant Director of the Office of Early Childhood and Student Services, presented the second session, “PA Threat Assessment Updates.” This session provided attendees with updates to threat assessment training and best practices for conducting school threat assessments in compliance with state guidelines.

By equipping school staff with essential tools and strategies, the training reinforced a proactive approach to managing potential threats, fostering safer learning environments for students across the region.
